Dear Hushna-Tara and Andrew,

A public thank-you letter from my heart.

ree

Please accept my apologies for the delay in writing to you. Despite the months since I stayed with you, Glenburn Estate is top of mind.

My time at your ‘heavenly little plantation retreat’, as you call it, was a wonderful, warm and enriching experience. The hotel is outstanding; my room – well, I am already planning a complete refurbishment of mine at home, on a mini scale of course. The issue is… who is going to draw the bath and add rose petals and mint!?

The staff were so warm and friendly and kind. The food was really delicious, and the care taken with my dietary requirements was truly appreciated. The atmosphere — or maybe that should be aura — that Glenburn has is special and a privilege to experience.

Since I first read about Glenburn through RARE hotels, it has been on my ‘One Day’ list. And to arrive after a huge day of travel from Sikkim, with many, many corners turned, and to take a deep breath and feel instantly at peace, is a testament to what you have created.

It was a joy to spend an evening with both of you – what exceptionally good luck for me to have you both there.

Darjeeling, as an area, has a mystical air about it for those who have heard of it but are not quite sure what to expect. I was one of those people. Then it all came clear:

The gentle knock on my door in the morning, with “Madam, Madam, the mountain”, so I sadly left the softness of my bed and walked across to pull the curtains…

The Kanchenjunga Range straight ahead.

Thank you for such a wonderful experience.
